Ranger Ravi | Our Wondrous World
Season 1
Ranger Ravi | Our Wondrous World is a youth series that encourages curiosity about yourself, others, and the world around you. We follow the charismatic Ranger Ravi, played by actor Kharim Amier, who, along with C.A.T. [Computer Animated Trustee], explores "how things actually work in the animal kingdom" based on submitted questions.
Through these examples from the animal world and nature, a wide range of themes are addressed: Love, Family, Religion, the Individual, the World, and much more.

The wonder of the infinite possibilities that nature and the world offer is always the basis for each episode. In this way, Ranger Ravi | Our Wondrous World is not only an exercise in empathy but also an ode to (bio)diversity.

In collaboration
This year, COC NL and the Narwhal Rainbow Alliance (NRA), in collaboration with actor and writer Kharim Amier (Arnhem Drama Academy), proudly present the youth series "Ranger Ravi | Our Wondrous World." This unique series invites children to explore the fascinating diversity of nature while discovering surprising parallels between humans and animals. Together with C.A.T. (Computer Animated Trustee), Ranger Ravi answers thought-provoking questions from children. From “Can animals have two moms or dads too?” to “Do animals believe in a god?”—everything is explored in a playful and accessible way.
About the series
Inspiration from Nature
The episodes reveal surprising connections to the animal kingdom. Children will learn, for example, that some same-sex penguin couples raise chicks together or that turtles use an "inner compass" to find their birthplace back. In one episode, Ranger Ravi, who shares that he can fall in love with both men and women, demonstrates how this is mirrored in the animal kingdom, such as among lions.

A Tribute to Curiosity and Diversity
“This series encourages children to stay curious about themselves, others, and the world around them,” says Kharim Amier, creator and lead actor. Jeroen Horvers, Head of Education at COC, emphasizes, “Making diversity a topic of conversation in an approachable and positive way works. Through various animal stories, we show that there are countless ways to live and love.”
Scientific Foundation: Queer Nature
The series is inspired by the concept of queer nature, which highlights the diversity of sexuality, gender, and family structures in the animal kingdom. With over 2,000 documented species exhibiting unique expressions of these themes, the series provides a scientifically grounded perspective on diversity. Noah Baars, founder of the Narwhal Rainbow Alliance, explains, “While science often carries its own biases, we rely on research to highlight biodiversity and diversity. It’s essential to make children aware of this richness—and of nature’s fragility.”
Educational Impact: Part of Purple Friday
The series is included in the 2024 Purple Friday lesson package, available to primary schools to encourage conversations about diversity and inclusion. “With Season 1’s five episodes, we’re taking a step toward making this topic a regular feature in education,” says Jeroen Horvers. Noah Baars adds, “We hope to advance recognition of diversity in the animal kingdom within the classroom.”
